Hello!

I would like to perform UV/VIS- turbidity measurements of Bovine Submaxillary Mucin (BSM) in MilliQ water at different concentrations (2-10 vol%) in order to get to know how much light is absorbed by the BSM solution. I found a paper "Enhanced Bioavailability of Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons in the Form of Mucin Complexes" in which the absorbance peak of BSM is around 280 nm.

Is it possible to use just the solvent, here MilliQ water, as my reference measurement to compare it with my samples or do I have to do a certain calibration with a standard?

Thanks in advance.
