We had brain slices of 30 micr. kept in 24 well-plate at 4ºC with PB 0,1M and 0,02% azide. They have been kept in these conditions for four months, however, we have recently discovered that some kind of mold has grown in some of the wells. Particularly, the growth is greater in those wells with a higher number of tissue slices.
Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get rid of the contamination and save the tissue?

Are these brain slices prepared from rat ou mice brain ?
Try to treat with amphotericin (see useful concentration on technical files) or mycostatine, or econazole. Amphotericin may modify plasma membrane permeability. We encountered such problems with explants from rat embryonic spinal cord, contaminated with Candida which infected pregnant rats.
