currently am doing FSI for flexible pipe (fluent + mechanical, system coupling), in this my problem set up is nicely working for low magnitudes of pressure UDF file (range from 0 to 12Pa). when i increased pressure to 12KPa in the UDF file getting error like
1]. "Update failed for the Solution component in System Coupling. The coupled update for System, Fluid Flow (Fluent), threw an exception".
2]. System coupling run completed with errors. Transient Structural (Solution 1) reported: One or more elements have become highly distorted. Excessive distortion of elements is usually a symptom indicating the need for corrective action elsewhere. Try ramping the load up instead of step applying the load (KBC,1). Please do not save the project if you would like to recover to the last saved state.
please can any one answer to this.

Dear Prashantha,
It might be due to unconverged solution for a timestep. I suggest you to reconsider the timestep size and the number of iterations.

Please check your time step for the fluid solution and check the autosave option is turned off. Good luck.
Pls check the range in UDF file programmed whether max range is less than / less than or equal to 12 Pa

Now my simulation is working nicely... it was problem with material property..
Anyway i have one more doubt..
My simulation is running smoothly when the Poisson's ratio is less than 0.49.
When i cross 0.49, getting same error like

Whether i have to increase number of elements in the constricted region or i have to go with smaller time step size??

" you must change the under relaxation factor in system coupling for both data transfer. The normal URF is one but you must consider lower than one and it's depend your solution and speed of convergence.
It seems, it relates to the version of your ANSYS. Check your case with using another version, may be 17.1 .
Now I have the same problem as yours: Update failed for the Solution component in System Coupling. The coupled update for system Transient Structural threw an exception. Error updating cell Solution in system Transient Structural.
I have set Poisson's ratio 0.485, and this Solution Control "Allow Simultaneous Update" still False , and COUPLING ITERATION = 2 in COUPLING STEP = 1 lasted a long time about 1 hour, I guess the final result was also failed.
