In light of the technological development that we live in now, unfortunately, I feel that the relationship between the professor and the student is starting to weaken significantly. Previously, the two sides, the professors and students, were doing their best to make the educational process successful. Now I find that the greatest burden falls on the professor, at least in our countries. I find that the student has become regressive and fails to perform his role, and unfortunately, all the instructions are in his favor and against the professor, and this is unfair...I also notice that the new generation of young people and even children have begun to show rebellion in dealing and this is clear in our dealings with students... Frankly, sometimes I find it very difficult to contain them and control many situations... The relationship between professors and students must be based on mutual respect and that each of them is aware of his role in order to make the educational process successful... If you ask me, I prefer the old ways and traditional teaching methods, although I present lectures in the form of presentations, I constantly use the blackboard and write on it and constantly ask students in order to activate their interaction with the scientific material...Because, frankly, I think that the traditional methods activate the attention and interaction of the student more, at least in our countries... This is my answer / how I understand your question :
There is no doubt that the integration of new technologies in schools and universities is thoroughly modifying the pedagogy and the curricula.
ICTE is also changing the paradigm of teaching and learning.
Professors are no longer the only ones who know because knowledge is available online. They must boost the creativity of the students and bring them human values because technology will bring a lack in this particular and important area.
However because he/she has (normally) more experience than his/her students, a professor will always have the advantage to be the one who gives directions and advices to his/her students.
This relationship must always be honest and sincere, where there is trust and an atmosphere of satisfaction on both sides, where there is feedback from both parties and knowledge flows.

Filipe Wiltgen The relationship between a professor and a student should be such that the student can talk about anything related to studies and at the same time, a professor must be like a go-to mentor whenever a student needs help both professionally and personally. Professors may not have answers to all the questions posed by the students but they can at least direct the students to the concerned person who can be of help.
I think, first, we should know that we speak about what future? 5, 20, 50, or 100 years later or even couple of centuries later. For the next decades we can guess that the digital learning and its methods may dominate the other methods. Therefore, the student-teacher coherence may decrease in this approach.
I come out of the fact that pedagogy is one of the most conservative sciences. Yes, pedagogical tools, technologies, conditions, etc. are being improved, but the patterns and principles of the pedagogical process, its foundations, remain the same. Therefore, it does not matter whether we are talking about today or tomorrow. After all, the relationship between a teacher and a student is the interaction of PERSONALITIES on the basis and rules generally accepted in society. Maybe tomorrow your student will become a teacher for you !?

Thank you for your faithful witness to the reality that we live in many countries.
I fear that we are in a period of transition between different educational evolutionary states, forced to occur due to the pandemic, but it would happen anyway within a decade.
This accelerated effect may be responsible for your reporting. Professors and students, as well as institutions themselves, did not have time to reflect and correctly process effects social distancing imposed by worldwide disease.
Changes in way of teaching young people must be well researched and well planned so that we can achieve desired way of teaching.
I remember that a decade ago when I was teaching disciplines in engineering undergraduate courses, I successfully used flipped class room practice, a method that puts the student at the center of responsibility for their learning, not that this reduces the teacher's role, but it makes the student understand that without their effective participation in the role of learning nothing happened, since he was t is fundamental to their success.

In my opinion, in the future, the teaching process will be mainly influenced by new information technologies, ICT and Industry 4.0, while changes in the aspects of social relations will also take place, but slightly slower than changes caused by the implementation of new technologies into the teaching process. I believe that the relationship between teachers and pupils or students will move towards liberalization, increasing the scope of partnership issues, eg in the field of designing and implementing team research projects. However, to what extent these processes will progress and in what directions, what their specificity will be, will depend on many social determinants, mental and cultural conditions, the emerging scale of new problems related to the development of civilization, regional and institutional conditions of the education system, etc. On the other hand On the other hand, the scale of regional and national determinants will gradually decrease due to the progressing information, cultural, technological, socio-economic globalization, etc.

I am not a futurist, fortune teller, predictor or anything like that. But as I know a 5 years period is absolutely different with 100 years in terms of human thoughts, approaches and technology. Therefore, I really can’t talk about 100 years later meaningfully. So, the machine learning, as you know, not means that there is a machin in a class. It is also not like the 40’s decade science fiction movies.
I think no one can not speak about anything in any field that may occur in 50, or 100 years later precisely without considering the rapid variation in human life, attitudes, or conflicts. All of ideas are conjectur.

The role of the teacher should not only be to provide information and control discipline, but to be a mediator between the student and the environment, being the student's guide or companion, showing the student that he is a great source of knowledge, great source of knowledge.
Hope this never turns to be robots! We always tend to replace the tasks with robots, but robots are now taking over by emotions. I think there is a touch which we have not sorted out. If we have tried to compensate it with technology or media, we are mistaken. Hope all these matters are solved.
Relationship is a very important term in sociology. Analysing how we enter into differentiated relationships illustrates what kind of society we are. Nowadays our relationships are technologically mediated. Moreover, technological rules are replacing social rules. From my perspective, the Professor-Student relationship should be based on respect. It seems an obvious answer, but I believe there is a generalized lack of respect in this type of relationship, which is harming the learning environment.
Students should respect the authority and experience (practical and theoretical) of teaching professors acquired during their careers. Disagreeing is not an excuse to be rude or insolent to someone who is trying to share knowledge. To be committed and follow the proposed activities is also a way to show respect to our lecturers, and it will certainly lead to a better learning experience.
On the other side, Professors have to respect the differences of each student or group of students, as they may respond differently to the same stimulus. Each person has many particularities, may not see a specific subject important for the path they are planning to follow (although they might be wrong!), have a gap of knowledge from previous courses, have family problems, or they might just not be on the mood. Stimulating the students' attention is certainly a better (and more respectful) way of making people committed to learning than using punishment methods, such as hard tests, for example.
I agree well with dr. Manal Hadi Kanaan, in our country this relation dies away with time due to different reasons no way to mention it here.

Everything in life is balance! When you talk about respect, it always has to be mutual, otherwise it doesn't exist. Any time it's just in one sense it's fear.
The problem you reported is not mutual respect, but upbringing and role models that children and young people have at home with their parents. This unfortunately is worldwide and almost always comes from the way each human generation develops.
I share your concern, but it goes much deeper than reported. Mutual respect is tip of giant iceberg.

In our country most probably the students rely on the teachers. The professor bears all the burden of students. Likely in research field the professor guide the students to complete research. Not only in the research but there are lot of other factors that the professors are facing.
From the scientific point of view, the relationship should be symbiotic in nature. That's, the student should be at the service of the professor with the sole aim of learning the intricacies of his or her chosen area. In return, the professor should not hold back any useful information that will make the student greater than him or her in future.
However, if at any point in time the relationship falls short of these ingredients, then, the best thing is to quit the relationship, especially in instances of any kind of molestation or extortion.
Отношения преподавателя и студента должны быть доверительными. Это о характере отношений. А если по сути, то наилучшее обучение - это обучение ученика у мастера. Here are my thoughts on it: Since a lot of factual knowledge is available through google and the like, the teacher's job also changes. The teacher becomes more of a learning companion. This includes, for example, discussing how suitable sources can be identified, since the Internet in particular contains a lot of fake news. The teacher must also recognize problems in the learning process and offer appropriate help. It is about imparting knowledge where this is necessary and at the same time facilitating the independent acquisition of knowledge. It will be more about stimulating discussion, developing competencies and critical thinking than just memorizing facts. The teacher-student-relationship is characterized by mutual respect and is more cooperative than authoritarian. The aim is to prepare students for a good life in the digital, individualized world.

Until a few decades ago, the teacher-student relationship resembled that of father-son. The teacher was the student's father, mentor, and guide. With time, the student became the heir of the professor by applying his teachings; he had become the support staff of the old man.
Unfortunately, as Manal Hadi Kanaan and Djeneba Traore have pointed out, with technological developments, this teacher-student relationship has receded. Adding to the availability of massive data, the student believes that he does without the expertise of professor and, this is unfortunately a utopian vision.
Teacher and shogird relations in the future - this is a very difficult matter. But among the people of knowledge, it seems to me, it is not necessary at all problematic. The main emphasis is on shogird's patience, searchability, persistence and master's maturation.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. However, it is fact that it is formal that allows for the natural hierarchy between people. This is undoubtedly important for students and their professional relationships with their teachers, at all levels of education including pre-school through doctoral.
The teacher may even become a friend, but his purpose is to educate and not to be a friend. They are different relationships with different hierarchies due to formation, maturity, responsibility, among many others.

When I started teaching in 2011 at my current position, it was mandatory for the advisees to meet with their advisor at least one time during semester. As a faculty most of us used to teach courses in classroom, hybrid and online modes. Pandemic changed it all to online. Students start liking online because it is convenient, and faculty members think it is safe. I know and feel, I don't have same strong bonding with my students the way I used to have with my students and with my professors as a student. Zoom is helping little to reach out the students/advisees, hope this pandemic end and in new normal we will go back to traditional student- teacher bonding. Thanks, Prit Kaur
In my opinion the relationship has been already deeply defined in the literature (student centred, stress on effective feedback, authoritative rather than authoritarian, promoting discussion and active participation, ...) and Neuroscience/neuroeducation confirms these features. The problem will be whether the other stakeholders (institutions, governments...) will be able to create the conditions to make this happen in terms of organization, legami and educative goals, and also teachers' training.
In order for professors to be able to influence the behaviour of their students and eventually to convince them to acquire the information and materials that are planned for as an objective of the class, professors need to communicate with their students and as we know there are many ways for communicating, i.e., the verbal and the non-verbal way. Thus, one of the disadvantages of the online classes is that communication has been weakened since it lacks the non-verbal communication such as gestures and facial expressions. So, for me, I don’t recommend the online classes.

First of all, I think each of us can answer this question depending on the teaching and learning conception we have. I like to think students learn with mates and are interested in a lot of subjects we really ignore. So, teachers have to provide the conditions for students to learn, have to think an present activities that make students think and interact with others students, teachers and scientists. Teachers must make them feel confident and confortable.
