I have performed TAC and TFC for Bark and leaf plant extract, and results are showing good activity for chloroform extraction in both cases, as per literature ethanolic extract yields good results. Do I need to repeat the activities or this may happen because of other phytochemicals present in the plant?
Dear Sakshi Thakur , the evaluation of the total flavonoid contents (TFC) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), are based on spectrometric methods, these evaluations give you an estimation of the flavonoid content and antioxidant activity, but lets remember that your extract have many other compounds that can induce wrong results for both evaluations. Its better to perform purification of flavonoids and evaluate them in order to have more precise results, you can purify them using prep-HPLC else you can use Column chromatography and trace them with thin layer chromatography.
