Goal 1: No Poverty

The goals are certainly ambitious slogans, but I think they are more than that, too.
I see them as a set of indicators of Sustainability. I don't think they are ideal - they have weaknesses that likely are political in nature.
For example, Goal 8 Decent work and Economic Growth - we know that economic growth adds to a community's sustainability only if they are at the edge of poverty right now. If the community is affluent, degrowth will tend to increase the quality of life of the community, once the costs associated with excess resource consumption are considered. So it will apply to some particular fraction of the world (likely more than half the population), but it shouldn't be a 'goal' for everyone to try to achieve.
Likewise, #1 No Poverty is not achievable. Poverty occurs when the obstructions within a community that prevent people from meeting their needs cause people to need more than 24 hours per day to meet all of their needs - thus not all of their needs can possibly be met. Poverty can be reduced by identifying and removing the obstructions that prevent people from meeting their needs, and by increasing the access that individuals have to resources. But not completely eliminated.
But they can serve to provide a common set of talking points. So when I propose a development that focuses only on one of them (say Water and Sanitation), and I ignore another (say Life Below Water), someone will point that out.
These goals are the higher level objectives. They need to be translated to quantifiable numbers for meaningful targeting and tracking progress.
If a country achieve goal -1, goals at S. No 2 to 4 will be achieved automatically, I think so.
All goals are acievable if there is a real common will between peple and elites .
The way they are universally accepted helps mobilize action.
