Used engine oil is a growing environmental problem and need B proper attention.
According to a survey conducted in Peshawar city, revealed that 61.25% of used engine oil is collected. Only 15.00% of the remaining 37.75 is re-used and 23.75% is directly burn out. Major part of collected oil (23.75%) used to burn in brick kiln. On the average 61.01% vehicles owners used recycled engine oil. Majority of them were rickshaws and motor cycles owners. As the collector, dealer and personnel of recycling plants were not willing to provide re-cycling related information, therefore the concerned drivers were asked about its quality. Private car owners simply complaint about its quality, while rickshaw drivers, preferred recycled engine oil due to its low price.

Dear Dr. Nafees Mohammad , it is really a very serious concern and care should be taken not to contribute for the prevailing environmental pollution and associated negative consequences on every thing.
Research reports indicated that used oil is contaminated not only with heavy metals but also with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that are insignificant in the unused oil( Akintunde et al.,2015).
Likewise, used motor oil has mutagenic and carcinogenic effects ( RafaelVazquez-Duhalt , , 1989).
For these reasons and as a consequence of its chemical composition, world-wide dispersion and effects on the environment, used motor oil must be considered a serious environmental problem.

Akintunde et al (2105) also reported that there is a negative relation between used engine oil and male reproductive parameters. They also concluded that used engine oil should be prevented from leaking, spilling or improperly discarded as through medium it may enter storm water runoff and eventually affect the environmental health receiving water bodies.

This is quite revealing. One other local/non-conventional need for used engine oil is for fighting termite infestation. This discussion is quite advisable as it is an eye opener on the significant environmental aspect and impact of used engine oil.
Recycling used oil is becoming the preferred way of handling used oil to protect the environment and conserve natural resources. Used oil can be re-refined into lubricants, processed into fuel oils if it meet the same stringent refining, compounding, and performance standards as virgin oil. Litrature, extensive laboratory testing and field studies conclude that re-refined oil is equivalent to virgin oil.
