Would you like to measure deformation of a ropee in the conditions of object or on the test facility (Instron or Zwick)? If on the test facility, then you suit the extensometer with long probes. And in the conditions of object it is desirable to specify a task - whether it is necessary for you were thinned the module of elasticity of a ropee or deformation under loading? In the latter case you can take a rope of big length (more than 10 meters) and to measure deformation by a level or the cathetometer.

Thank you for yours suggestions. I would like to measure a displacement of wire rope embedded in bricks subjected pull-out test (in vertical direction). My goal is, I want to know the displacement in a particular point of the rope for an example, below 150 mm from the brick's surface.  

What to you the block by  testing mashine car prevents to fix in one capture, and yours rope in another and to pull? The modern  testing equipment allows different options of sample fastening.
