I am facing a condition on the Petri plate medium. I have prepared a solid medium with all the proper processes including sterilization, disinfectants, and autoclave, and I have done all the protocols and materials completely well. We came across an unknown object while storing the Petri plates in the safe boxes for a long period of time. Based on my efforts and research, I am unable to identify or discover this mysterious object. A picture of that object will be attached here below. I am looking forward to hearing from the experts and those who have faced the same problems. It means a lot to me.
It looks like mold or fungus to me. They are slow growing and, if contaminated from the air, will show up after bacteria grow out on the medium selected for that species. Note the area of inhibition around the colonies.
We once had a study under way while our building was being renovated and ran into this problem. Fortunately, our counts were already completed. It's a dirty world.
