I watched the attached YouTube video. The current President of the United States of America concluded that ''They should be a state'' regarding Canada at the end of the video.

The real question here is: Do Canadians want their country, Canada, to become the 51st state of the United States?

Culture wise, Canada could join the European Union, should that organisation decide to allow different kinds of membership. First step would be to compete in the European Song Festival! Australia is already a member of that. This is called “Track two diplomacy” in Peace and Conflict studies, see Vamik Volkan’s publications. Create exchange students programmes, twin with cities, associations, service clubs and so forth.

Then Canada can become a republic too.

President Trump's question prompts us to reflect on the constitution of nations and our conception of human development. It makes us realize that the leaders of powerful states (those who have managed to acquire the most capital) tend to want to dictate the conduct of other states under the skirt of free trade. We are witnessing a trivialization of imperialism and must reflect on the fact that the lords of rich states can dictate the conduct of the serfs of conquered states, and this with complete impunity. Will this arouse among citizens the need to better affirm republican values? Do we wish to emerge from an Empire centered on control by money, leading to the enslavement of some by others, to evolve towards a republican world, where it would become important to respect the social contract?

Elle nous fait prendre conscience que les dirigeants des États puissants (ceux qui ont réussi à acquérir le plus de capital) ont tendance à vouloir dicter la conduite des autres États sous couvert du libre-échange. Nous assistons à une banalisation de l'impérialisme et devons réfléchir au fait que les seigneurs des États riches peuvent dicter la conduite des serfs des États conquis, et ce en toute impunité.
