Hi, There are some kits commercially available for RNA extraction from plasma. One point is RNA molecules present in plasma are mostly fragmented RNA and small RNA like miRNA. If you do not have access to any kit then in my opinion you can start with mixing plasma:Tri reagent in 1:1 ratio and follow the usual Tri reagent protocol.
The first thing is to choose the method you want to perform to isolate RNA from serum samples. You can purchase commercial kits they are easy and with the procedure
Also, one thing that you should keep in your mind is that the amount of RNA in serum/plasma is very small and mostly fragmented. So extracting RNA from serum or plasma will not yield full length, total RNA that you can get while working with whole blood.
Iqra Kashif Thanks for helping! Any recommendations on how to increase the RNA yield from serum/plasma samples? What about adding RNA carrier (i.e. MS2 bacteriophage RNA carrier) for this purpose?
