I have a question about electrolysis cell. Can the working potential and required power density be calculated with the following information:
current density = 20 mA/cm^2
Potential (V vs Ag/Ag-Cl) = -2.2 volt
Ag/Ag-Cl reference potential = +0.1976 volt

The use of reference electrode is to divide the cell into two electrodes that can the working electrodes and the counter electrode.
So , in order to measure the whole cell power one has to measure also the counter electrode.
Knowing the potential of the counter electrode say Vcounter,
then at the same current
The power dissipated in the cell = I( (Vworking- Vref)- ( Vcounter- Vref))= I (Vworking- Vcounter)
So the first part will be the power dissipated in the working electrode.
