I am trying to synthesize single-phase CaFeO2. The reactants are CaFeO2.5 and a two-molar excess of CaH2, the powder was mixed for more than 30min, pelletized, and vacuum-sealed in a pyrex tube. Finally, the pyrex tube was reacted at 553K for 7days.
Unfortunately，all the productions are Fe.

A phase is a part of a system separated from another by an interface. Therefore, CaFeO2 and CaFeO2.5 are different phases, but one chemical compound is a daltonide (a stoichiometric compound of elements), and the second is a bertolide (non-stoichiometric). You want to get CaFeO2 from CaFeO2.5. To do this, add a large excess of CaH2 to CaFeO2.5 and you get Fe instead of the expected CaFeO2. You reduce Fe2+ to Fe. You need to oxidize the CaFeO2.5 to have more oxygen in the compound and produce CaFeO2.
