Hello community!
I would appreciate your insights regarding the following nomenclatural issue. Several decades ago, a proposal was submitted to conserve a name in the genus Ficus (i.e., Ficus species 1, a widely used name) against an older, less commonly used name (Ficus species 2). The proposal addressed only these two heterotypic names. Recently, however, a third name (Ficus species 3) was discovered to have nomenclatural priority over both.
Given this, would it be necessary to submit a new proposal to reject Ficus species 3 in favor of the conserved name (Ficus species 1)? Alternatively, what would be the most appropriate course of action under the current Code?
Thank you in advance for your valuable input.
