A new branch of applied mathematics will emerge concerning designing prior to 3D printing. The categories of scholar and entrepreneur may soon begin to overlap more. The more advanced 3D printers become, the faster a concept can go to a finished product.

@LeeClawson , Going from concept to finished product through 3D printing hopefully will take less time. A concept may become so detailed that all that will be needed is to 3D print it and then prototype until trial and error calls for a redo of the concept. The new branch of applied mathematics could be named Advanced Conception.
We can agree to disagree. Advanced Conception will have an emphasis on 3D printing. In contrast, Design Thinking does not deal particularly with 3D printing.
