Please explain to me or refer me to a link describing the mechanism of hemoglobin degradation by lysosomal acid hydrolases of splenic macrophages.

I am more interested in the fate of the globin residue. I am writing a structural biology review and would therefore prefer structural aspects of these hydrolases/proteases.

Cathepsin D seems to be the primary protease involved in lysosomal hemoglobin degradation. However very few structural studies have been committed on the mode of recognition and cleavage of hemoglobin it seems. Any links ?
