For and experiment I would like to place Drosophila on standard food suppelemented with 20% coconutoil.
As described in other papers, the vials can be kept at 25°C. Unfortunatly my flies die due to the greasiness of the oil, their wings stick together and they just stick to the bottom of thevial.
I've tried giving them a "feeding island" with a piece of filterpaper on the food, but this just absorbs the fat and they die anyway.
Any advice?

You can used a spongy piece by saturate it with your oil feed

actually this happen with me also when i prepare media with 10% ,20% coconut oil most flies die due to the greasiness of the oil .
most the papers have coconut oil recipes don't mention how can solve this problem

Thanks for the responses, placing the vial horizontally at 20°C did help a lot !
