Hi, Can anyone explain me physical significance of peaks D and G in Raman spectroscopy of Graphene. I know these are from in plane and out of plane vibration. Can someone please explain from view of physical properties like bond energy or any other physical property of Graphene?
Have you read the works by Millie Dresselhaus and coworkers? They defined the quality conditions with those peaks and wrote well-readable texts.
For a starter: both are delocalized vibrations so you can't just correlate them to a single bond.
G mode: in-plane breathing vibration that can be found for any sp2 carbon material; its wavenumber is somewhat characteristic for the species (graphene, nanotube, fullerene).
D mode: out-of-plane vibration that for undefected sp2 is not excited due to symmetry restrictions. In defected material the symmetry restriction is lifted and the vibration is excited.
Therefore the D/G intensity ratio is a good indicator of your graphene or nanotube quality.

The intensity of the D band of the Raman spectra at ∼1331 cm−1(approximate) for structural defects in the graphitic plane. The G band at ∼1610 cm−1 is commonly observed for all graphitic structures, and it is attributed to the E2g vibrational mode present in sp2-bonded ordered graphitic carbon. The extent of the defects in a graphite material can be qualitatively estimated from the integrated intensity ratio of the D and G bands (ID/IG); higher the value higher the defect in the system. The D* band appearing as a shoulder at ~1615 cm−1 on the G band is a feature of defect and edge effects.
