Insulin is a very well conserved molecule across species with only limited number of aa differences, which allows the insulin receptors of one species  to recognize insulin from other species - such as human insulin works in mice, rats, dogs or porcine insulin in human (prior to discovery of recombinant protein production).

[C-peptide is more divergent but that is not a part of functionally active insulin molecule.]
