Hi everyone,

I am planning to publish a book on the untold story of Pakistan’s economy

Pakistan’s economy has been torn between predatory and participatory impulses from the very beginning. These two tendencies led to the creation of two constituencies of power, meritocracy, and kleptocracy. The conflict between the meritocrats and kleptocrats defines many paradoxes and enigmas of Pakistani society; simultaneous existence of a secular ruling elite and a theocratic state; a resource rich economy under a crushing external debt burden; a thriving business sector and a narrow tax base; high level of investment in the formal sector and high level of employment in the informal sector; democratic social norms and autocratic political culture; enormous opportunities for economic growth through regional peace and perpetual unresolved conflict with the neighbors; and generation of profits based on negative value added by the corporate sector. Many foreign and domestic observers have described these paradoxes, but they are unable to connect the dots. We need to connect the dots to untangle the neurotic lock between the unsuspecting masses and unscrupulous masters. I am looking for chapter contributors for this work. Once I have 7-9 contributors, I will arrange a zoom conference to thrash out the details. Please send me a line if you would like to contribute a chapter.
