I wonder whether Chinese scientists can do science with their traditional Chinese (Mandarin ?) or as a scientific language they use mainly English and/or other languages with proper letters rather than figures for words ?
Many Chinese scientists publish in their native language, for those in mainland China, a simplified writing system, and for those in Taiwan, HK SAR and Macau SAR, traditional Chinese. There are thousands of academci circulating in China now, most of them are published in Chinese. Since English has become the Lingua Franca for the international sicentific community, many Chinese scientists also publish in English, and I think more and more of them will publish in English to gain an international readership and expand their influence worldwide.
Chinese people are known for giving importance to their native language. I have heard that their medium of education and research is Chinese. To make their research popular and reachable to a wider community, the English translations of the articles are also published.
@Sudev Naduvath Nowadays the government and universities stress very much the importance of learning a foreign language, in most cases English, and I think more and more Chinese can use English as a means to communicate with people from outside of the country, and more and more scholars and researchers begin to write in English and get published in academic journals throughout the world, and the scientific influence from China is extending, making those scholars one important part of the global adademic community.
According to the world history China has been the country in pioneering in experimental science starting from very early ages up to nowadays. I am sure that we have to learn a lot from Chinese, Japan's & Koreans traditional science, medicine and culture.
