Since there is wave-particle duality, double slit experiment, Heisenberg's uncertainity, Schrodinger's electron probability formula, photon entaglement with more than speed of light, too many extraordinary events etc. Quantum mechanics seems to be a kind of philosophic physics also ! Just a general point. There is always the issue of to what extent physical theories and formulas directly describe reality instead of just being heuristic calculation devices that take you from inputs (initial conditions) to outputs (predictions). Quantum mechanics is not the only area of physics facing that issue.
Quantum mechanics is more mathematics than physics. There is, for example, no such thing as an orbital occupying real space (because orbitals occupy abstract space -- whatever that means), not to mention the gazillion phantom particles postulated in order to balance the mathematical equations out.
Preston Guynn , electron (if it exists, which some, e.g., Nikola Tesla, doubt, and not without reason) cannot be a point particle because nothing can be a point particle because particle is a division of a whole (which point is not because point is non-dimensional -- Aristotle); nor can electron be a wave, unless electron is like an ocean, a medium with wavy motion. And if electron has an internal structure, what is the structure made of? Smaller particles with internal structure? Can this go on to infinity? (Surely not.)
The search for the fundamental particle(s) will end by realizing (or re-realizing?) that there is no fundamental particle at all because the source of the material realm is immaterial, which already the ancient Chinese understood (bi disc).
Yes Sinan, in my opinion the metaphysics required for quantum mechanics profoundly changes our worldview in ways which have multiple philosophical consequences, one of them being the undermining of semantic externalism, which currently has many adherents in analytic philosophy.
