It is my understanding that the best, and most well characterised drug for inhibiting microglial activity is minocycline. It is clear, however, the drug can influence some neuronal functions. This makes life difficult in trying to attribute (unequivocally) minocycline driven changes to microglia alone. What drugs are available to dampen microglial activity that may be more specific - or at least differ in their profile of off-target actions?
