Is this some type of contamination or just clustered dead cells?

I have few experience working with AN3CA cells. I seeded single cells in a 96 well plate and many of the wells have these structures and they are found with or without colonies of AN3CA that came from a single cell. If they were cells i would have expected for them to have a higher number, since they have been seeded for some weeks. Any ideas of what this could be?

Which growth medium did you use?

It is likely that your cells died and left over cell debris. It can also be crystals that were formed within the medium if the ingredient concentration was high. Culture an empty well without any cells to see if this appears to confirm the source.
