Performing a chondrogenesis assay on an adipose-derived stem cell subpopulation, and after seven days of differentiation my cells are covered in these small shapes. Initially we thought it was a fungal infection, but a closer look (40x photo attached) made us think these may be crystals. The cells are still alive and well underneath, and the objects seem to be attached to the surface of the cells (they don't move when the well is shaken). If anyone has encountered a phenomenon like this before, your opinions would be appreciated!
