I recently experienced a case of heterotopic ossification associated with cancer. I want to know immunoprofile of this cancer cells for bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs). Is there anyone who can help me?
BMPs and related growth factors work at very low concentrations. Also, the antibodies against the BMPs are not very good because these proteins are conserved across species and in the serum, thus making them poor antigens. Alternatively, you can look at the effectors of BMPs by immunostaining with antibodies against P-Smad1/5/8, which should give a decent nuclear signal if BMPs are active. Also, you can measure RNA from tissue samples.
