Read its instructions. For example, this one (Thermo Scientific™ ART™ Barrier SoftFit-L™ Filtered Pipette Tips) is 'sterile'. Sterile tips are certified free from RNase, DNase and pyrogen, according to the site. https://www.fishersci.com/shop/products/rt-barrier-softfit-l-pipette-tips/p-8322017
I autoclaved my filtering tips anyway. It does not hurt I guess.
Basically, filter-tips should be sterile and there is no need to be autoclaved. If you have to for any reason!!, make sure that the purchasing filter-tips are autoclavable, because if you autoclaved filter-tips that should not be autoclaved this might damage either the autoclave or the used tips as moisture may blocks their filter after autoclaving. Best luck
Filter tips are already sterile by radiation and no need for autoclave . In some circumstances in countries with low income, these tips my be autoclaved if it is recommend to re-use other time....Kind regard
As you said, people have re-use pippet tips. Many years ago (before PCR era) we re-used the tips (no filters) for doing protein stuff. But I think the 'filtering' tips will be hard to be reused, because the 'filter' inside the tips can retain substances/chemicals and they are hard to be washed away, which can contaminate the next experiments.
Working molecular biology starts with cleaning all laboratory tools and sterilizing all instruments to take the most accurate results .Yes, autoclave device is very necessary .
Yes, theoretically we don't need to autoclave those filtering tips coming in sterile. @ Mushtak T. S. Al-Ouqaili, As you said, people have re-use pippet tips. Many years ago (before PCR era) we re-used the tips (no filters) for doing protein stuff.
