I want to carry out some preliminary experiments using DNA. Since DNA is relatively expensive, I would rather want a molecule which is a little cheaper as I want to work on basic parameters like its interaction with other molecules, behavior in different conditions, etc. Is there any other alternative or similar molecule (like liposomes can be used as a cell membrane model) which i can use in place of DNA?

If you want genomic just take some blood of yours and extract gDNA can also be done from cell culture cells). If you mean plasmid DNA, just ask anyone in your deparment to give you some pcDNA3 or similar.
Another cheap source of DNA (that is sometimes used as carrier DNA for transformations) is fish sperm DNA. It costs about 35 euros/ 45$ per 10g.
heh... you plan to work with solutions of macromolecules (DNA) then... something cheap would not be homogeneous in lengths of macromolecules, while all the results you get from the measurements make sense only for the solution of same, or similar lengths of polymers. Alternative to DNA -- the short answer is: it is unique. Especially when you are interested in things like like its interaction with other molecules, behavior in different conditions, you DO need a solution which contains polymers of same lengths.
