I bought some mice but I wasn't sure that they are inbred. mice were challenged with pertussis and after 18 days were sacrificed.Their BALs were cultured on BG but my control group which weren't immunized showed no colony on their plates.
It is always recommended to use indred mice because outbred mice are displaying high variability that limiting their use. So most of researchers use inbred strains of mice because of the greater homogeneity. his could be the cause of it.
It is not a good idea to use outbred mice as they lack genetic homogenity and might have been subjected to lot of food and environment variability which altered the possible characteristic nature to respond for the specific experimental procedures (they might have developed resistance to your infection agent) . It is always better to use inbred mice to be sure that the variation in results are not due to animals.
