Benzodiazepines are known to negatively affect memory in a number of tests, so you might want to look into that as an option.

D-Galactose is also a viable option.

Drugs or agents that induce memory impairment are various types, for instance, Amyloid beta oligomer (25-35 or 1-42), haloperidol, lopopolysaccharide (LPS), Glucocorticoid, okadaic acid, etc. So, you can put these keywords to find the article you need. I hope my answer will be helpful for you.

also if the aim is to use this model to look for memory enhancing drugs as an alternative you could use natural forgetting. I did this by varying the time delay in a memory task to identify memory-enhancing compounds. Ask me if you want a copy of my paper.

You can use inhibitors of the Ras-ERK pathway (for example PD325901).

There are many. Best know are stong benzodiazepines and GHB. Look at "date rape drugs"...

I have looked for D-galactose-induced memory loss model, it is a good one. But my aim is not for enhancing memory in aged rats. I am looking for a model that is more representative for Alzheimer disease models as I can not get transgenic models for this disease.

If you are looking for not-transgenic model of Alheimer disease probably the best one is induced by icv streptozotocin developed by  my department colleague  M. Salkovic-Petrisic and S. Hoyer from Heildeberg:

Does this compound penetrate the BBB or not? in other words if we inject it I.P. rather than I.C.V. , will we get the same profound effects.

Futhermore, as this drug is used to induce diabetes in rats, will be good option for me to test the protective effect of fruits in this model? Or do I have to use another food that does not contain sugar?
