I want to measure how well nanoparticles can transfect cells based on NP adhesion properties. In the literature I find people do it in animal studies, and epithelial adhesion helps in transfection efficiency through airways.
Is there any in vitro method for measuring how the improved adhesion can influence cell transfection efficiency?

Fluorescently-labeled payloads provide a simple way of examining nanoparticle adhesion and uptake using confocal microscopy. Transfection efficiency can be easily measured by analyzing the cells using flow cytometry.

Particle/dead cell uptake by a live cell depends on several physico/chemical parameters like size, charge, cultural conditions. Particle up-take is a two stem process where particles first adhere to the cell membrane and subsequently are internalised by the cells. However, with just change in temperature, the particle internalization can be stopped. So, it depends on what one is looking at like either adhesion or internalization.
Just culturing the fluochrome tagged particles with cells of your interest and checking the uptake either by flowcytometry or by IF is one way of for evaluating nanoparticle adhesion. Alternatively, looking for end effects on the cell like cells response upon particle uptake can also give better evidence on particle updhesion/uptake.
