There are various social networking sites for researchers around the globe. Such is Google Scholar, Academia, LinkedIn and somany other. Which one researchers like the most?
What are the features that distinguish researchGate from other such sites?
ResearchGate is one of the most popular social networking sites for researchers with current users around 15 million people. It however have some downsides
Dear Dr. Nafees Mohammad , among the listed options, I prefer RG and found it very interesting. You can get diverse scientists actively participating in RG and you can share and exchange diverse information, knowledge and experiences with the diverse scientists globally timely and freely. For these reasons, I found RG is very interesting.
Frankly speaking, I have all the social media account ( Academia, LinkedIn etc. ), hardly I have visited those site. I found RG is most friendly, interacting and promising.
ResearchGate is a social networking site for scientists and researchers to share papers, ask and answer questions, and find collaborators. According to a study by Nature and an article in Times Higher Education, it is the largest academic social network in terms of active users, although other services have more registered users and more recent data suggests that almost as many academics have Google Scholar profiles.
In general, I think that the Researchgate is one of the most useful social networks among researchers all over the world. ResearchGate links researchers around selected topics and specializations – these can be chosen or edited at any time by members. Members can track and follow the research publications of others in their field.
It also offers the following benefits to researchers:
Sharing publications
Connecting with colleagues
Seeking new collaborations
Obtaining statistics and metrics on use of uploaded publications
Asking questions of researchers around the world that have the same set of interests
I agree that RG is very popular among scientists. It allows to get in contact with other people doing research in similar areas all around the world and to share publications, to build your visibility and recognition. I find it very useful. However, it has some defects and shortcomings.
RG provides highly interactive research platform for researchers across various domains. Inputs from researchers is available and multidisciplinary research can be easier across large spectrum. I find it very good interacting with researchers from various fields and motivated. It is easy to interact with researchers from across whole word.
RG is popular and super-interactive, it is a social networking site for scientists, engineers and researchers in all field of studies to share papers, ask and answer interesting and educative questions. It is also a good platform to find collaborators. In my opinion RG is the most popular so far...
A social networking service (also social networking site, SNS or social media) is a web application that people use to build social networks or social relations with other people who share similar personal or career interests, activities, backgrounds or real-life connections. The variety of stand-alone and built-in social networking services currently available online introduces challenges of definition; however, some common features exist:
1. social networking services are Internet-based applications
2. user-generated content (UGC) is the lifeblood of SNS organisations.
Most social-network services are web-based and provide means for users to interact over the Internet, such as by e-mail, by instant messaging and through online forums.
Here we are talking about those websites used by researchers. Such as Google scholar, Scopus, LinkedIn and Academia. There may be other also.
