Hello All, Why is it that 2 mm soil is used for routine analysis and 0.5 mm for organic C and total N

In most of the soil researches read and soil science manual, 2 mm soil is used for routine analysis and 0.5 mm for Organic C, and there is no explanation why this is so. Can anyone tell me the reason

Should soil loss due to crop (tuber) harvesting be part of soil loss during erosion studies under natural rainfall?

Since this soil is loose, and I think there will be no significant soil attached to the tuber during harvesting, does this underestimate the soil loss washed off under this study?
