I am investigating the effect of the Global Gender Gap Index (GGGI) on the Political Terror Scale (PTS). However, since my independent variable (GGGI) is continuous and my dependent variable is ordinal I am unsure what statistical test to use. Is it possible to just treat the PTS as a continuous variable, as has been suggested by someone, in order to use a correlation test?

I am using SPSS if that is of any relevance.
