To go beyond Carnot's efficiency, you need to be able to design a perpetual motion machine: a system capable of violating either the first law of thermodynamics (perpetual motion of the first kind) or the second law of thermodynamics (perpetual motion of the second kind) within the framework of classical physics. For the moment, I don't think this is possible, but maybe in the future when scientists have understood how quantum phenomena work and can reproduce them on a macroscopic scale.
