Well, there is something going on in LA U of Berkley.

In my research on Ethical Mindsets, Compassion was one of the items included in that research - and it was interesting to see that it is part of the dimensions of the components of the ethical mindset.

Dr. Dorothy Dunn from Northern Arizona University has done work on Compassion. One of her articles is called: A way of knowing, being, valuing, and living with compassion energy: A unitary science and nursing as caring perspective.

You might also look at the research that deals with the practice of empathy in therapy - Kohut is one of the main sources for this.

At the risk of being a little self-promoting, there's some pretty interesting compassion work going on in the area of physician compassion. Physicians are "parent-like" figures for many of us insofar as they're powerful and we seek their approval. Anyway, one of my doctoral students is developing work in the area. You can find some of his most recent stuff on ResearchGate (from my homepage or whatever it's called).

Hollis-Walker, L. & Colosimo, K. (2011). Mindfulness, self-compassion, and happiness in non-meditators: A theoretical and empirical examination. Personality and Individual Differences, 50(2), 222-227. This research is about self-compassion which may be helpful to write your book.

Hello Ruth,

There's some research going on in the field of Self-compassion in Chile. Claudio Araya (PhD candidate at Universidad de Chile) and his research team are developing sellf-compassion workshops for depressed women in a clinical setting. Look for Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer, who are the top researchers in the field of self-compassion studies... hope this is useful.
