Activated carbon can be use for the adsorption of chromium .. Adsorption is the good and promising method .

Or you can try the old method of pH adjustment to circa. pH 10 followed by coagulation and clarification then pH correction back to 6 - 8 depending on the discharge point.

Activated Charcoal is a good choice, this is easily available and cast effective too.

Adsorption is an excellent technique for the removal of metals from effluent. Activated charcoal may be the effective for the chromium, but economic point of view,It is not feasible adsorbent. Synthetic zeolites are more promising adsorbents.

Sonia, your remark is applicable 

Yes, activate carbon is one the best purifying products, but depend on the operation you are intend to perform.  I meant that, if you install activate carbon inside distillation column, where your products need to be separated and purifying before transfer into  several stages. I strong advice to use activated carbon.
