What kind of research is going on in the field of aeromodelling and aircraft designing? Are there papers that publish only computer simulated results in this field?
What is the scope of research with unmanned aircrafts designing and improvements?
Your question and its description dont match quite well...!!
Firstly Aeromodelling and Aircraft Design are two very different worlds. For very basic software you should try XFLR5. http://sourceforge.net/projects/xflr5/
. For basic aeromodelling stuff it is the best software.
Yes , there is a lot of scope in Unmanned aircraft.... India is making its own UAVs,USAV,UCAV....So you might think of gearing up for it.
The modelling equation of 6 degree-of-freedom fixed-wing aircraft can be found in several good textbooks for flight dynamics. However, the external force and moment terms require the values of many aerodynamic coefficients and stability derivatives that are different for each aircraft model.
You can find the values for Aerosonde model from the web or textbooks, and can simulate with Flightgear or Xplane. However, you had better link these to the MATLAB or postprocess the flight simulation data in the similar programs for analysis and plotting.
Nowadays, flight control guys prefer to use this because the Xplane has many aircraft models and visualizing functions with environmental effects (e.g. ship motion by sea state for helipad landing of rotorcrafts and so on).
Sorry for this late answer, I just see the question ;-). XFRL5 is interesting to begin. After that, probably one of the most complete open source CFD code is probably OpenFoam (see http://www.openfoam.com/ for the latest version) No so simple if you are at the begining but really powerful. Probably the best is to begin by some exercices like a NACA0012 profile (http://airfoiltools.com/airfoil/naca4digit) in 2D then 3D and to compare with the litterature (lot of elements on internet like http://turbmodels.larc.nasa.gov/naca0012_val.html). When you are more comfortable with the software you can use a CAD model (i.e. done on Catia) to generate our aircraft Outer Master Surface and import it. The most interesting is that you can use the power of a parametric CAD model and see "rapidly" influence on the CFD code (when I say rapidly, it depend of course of your CFD model characterisrics and your computer, these calculations need generally a signifiant amount of CPU ressources).
Can anyone tell me what sort of journals are available for publishing these simulations? what kind of work is going in this field? is it enough to build a new model virtually n simulate to publish the results or do we need to build the model in real? please suggest me some reads too.
As regards publication it depend of course of what you want to publish (only simulation, innovative design and simulation, ..) . To be published you need to show an added value and on CFD if you begin in using a new code it is not so simple but as aeronautic is based on innovations if you couple innovative design and simulation it is probably a little simple.

This list is probably incomplete so please excuse me for that. Titles are ranked by decreasing SRJ ranking factor.
Hope that it will help you.
From now a lot of succes in your new challenge.and my best wishes for you, all the contributors and all the RG members for 2014.
To the above list, I would add AIAA Journal (0001-1452) and Journal of Aircraft (0021-8669). At a more fundamental level, Computers and Fluids (0045-7930) is another one to consider.
