Histogram equalization (HE) is a nonlinear technique in contrast enhancement. On the other hand, contrast stretching (CS) is a linear scheme. Which type of technique (linear such as CS or nonlinear such as HE) has a better effect to perceive an enhanced image? And, why?
Hi, according to my experience in the processing of photoacoustic microscopy imaging or ultrasound imaging, CS is more suitable for the image with high SNR. However, HE has more space in addressing the low SNR image.

If it is possible to obtain contrast stretched like images by histogram equalization technique, it would be a better achievement.
Non linear has better perception.
