Species of the sea cucumbers belonging to the genus Thyone are notorious in eviciscerating their internal organs through the mouth when traumatised thereby losing their tentacles, calcareous ring and other related organs. However, in some species the calcareous ring only is lost or eviscerated, I wish to know that in such cases where only the calcareous ring is lost and other structures like tentacles, introvert and retrator muscles are still intact, where do these extant structures insert/attach. Directly to the introvert or what? It does not appear likely that the entire calcareous ring is dissolved in the preservative which is alcohol. I know there are other sea cucumbers without a calcareous ring and am wondering if the few forms I am looking at are also characterised by the absence of the calcareous ring in life.
