Most of the time you are allowed to use different types of content and graphics from published research (e.g., graphs, plots, photos etc.) as long as you properly reference the research. Concerning photos you are also recommended to reference the photographer if known. If you are going to publish your research along with their graphics, you should contact the researchers and photographers and ask for permission.
