We have looked at the objects under x40 obj mag and they appear to be around 1µm in size (comparing to an appropriate graticule). They are small dark, and spin / jiggling with varying speeds. The infection seems to progress as the cells die off, and through trying a range of antibiotics against more 'unusual' bacteria they have found nothing that knocks the contamination back.

Mycoplasma is one of those things many talk about but few seem to have direct prescriptive experience of. So there is a great deal of confusion in the lab about whether this is or is not an infection and whether it is at all typical.

We are awaiting the results of testing from an external testing lab, but I would appreciate any advice about whether motile mycoplasma are typical (what source might these sub-species come from?), and any resource that might clear up future confusion over mycoplasma.
