I use DMEM added with glutamate and pyruvate but no phenol red and FBS. Good luck.

@Ying Yang, thanks for the answer. When you used the DMEM, were there issues of artifact formation with DMEM and the probe (H2DCFDA)?

Medium199 is a better option for culturing cells and measuring ROS level. It has worked well in our laboratory.
