" Hydroxyurea is a monohydroxyl-substituted urea (hydroxycarbamate) antimetabolite. Similar to other antimetabolite anti-cancer drugs, it acts by disrupting the DNA replication process of dividing cancer cells in the body. Hydroxyurea selectively inhibits ribonucleoside diphosphate reductase, an enzyme required to convert ribonucleoside diphosphates into deoxyribonucleoside diphosphates, thereby preventing cells from leaving the G1/S phase of the cell cycle. This agent also exhibits radiosensitizing activity by maintaining cells in the radiation-sensitive G1 phase and interfering with DNA repair " Hydroxyurea in use as an inhibitor of human immunodeficiency virus-type 1 replication. https://science.sciencemag.org/content/266/5186/801 Hydroxyurea therapy in children severely affected with sickle cell disease https://www.jpeds.com/article/S0022-3476(96)70335-9/pdf New insights into the antiviral effects of chloroquine https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(06)70361-9/fulltext Complementary Antiviral Efficacy of Hydroxyurea and Protease Inhibitors in Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Dendritic Cells and Lymphocytes Article Complementary Antiviral Efficacy of Hydroxyurea and Protease...
