Hi, I am submitting my ITS sequence (fungi) to Genbank however my adviser suggested that I should verify it first to make sure my sequence is really ITS by determining its matches with established ITS fragments in the database.
How and what databases can you recommend?

You can use several databases such as NCBI, EBI, DDBJ, qbank and several softwares for alignment and blast such as Mega and Bioedit.
The NCBI is the best database. You can use MEGA7 software for editing and comparing your sequences with other sequences downloaded from NCBI.
You can download this software from https://www.megasoftware.net
Also, you can draw a phylogenetic tree with this software for the sequences.

I suggest to use Loci database by NCBI. A name status report is also available at https://www.ncbi.niligov/Taxonomy/Taxidentifier/tax_identifier.cgi

Match your sequence in databases such as NCBI, EBI, DDBJ, qbank. Assure your seq has >98 % similarity. Prepare phylogeny using Tree Base.
Submit your sequence in either of database. In case of NCBI you can use submission portal https://submit.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/subs/genbank/.
