A classical way is to monitor the corpus luteum and determine if it regresses (diameter). Sometimes uterine fluid accumulation will extend the CL even without an embryo, so one has to interpret data carefully. The heartbeat reflects the fact that the embryo is still living. CL regression reflect the fact that the embryo is not longer living, if it was to begin with.
Thank you dear jack hai den britt sir. What you answered is definitely a valid point. But is there any kind of a quick kit test or any other parameter.
By conducting two ultrasonographic scans of the uterus at 10 days interval and comparing between growth parameters( e.g.; CR, Biparietal head diameter ) recorded in the two examinations.
If there is an increase in one or more of cited parameters , this means that the embryo is still alive and continue to grow.
There are milk and blood tests for Pregnancy Associated Proteins (PAGs) in the bovine that can verify pregnancy. In the USA, there are many services that do these tests for farmers with results reported in 2-3 days. This is often compared with ultrasound scans to verify results. Below is a link to a great presentation on this topic.
To my knowledge, viable embryos will have distinct boundries and limb and head buds will be clearly viewed. Dead embryos lack there criteria. Besides, the appearance of the amniotic fluid is different.
