I am trying to prepare a superabsorbent hydrogel by crosslinking of gum aldehyde with pentaerythritol. The problem i am facing is that after crosslinking instead of getting a hydrogel kind of film i get a precipitate left behind on glass plates. Can anybody suggest me the method how could i going to prepare hydrogel on crosslinking of gum aldehyde and pentaerythritol?
[ I have also tried to change the effective parameters for the crosslinking like percentage of water, temperature and time but the results were not satisfactory].
Have you tried to induce cross-linking with gamma radiation or similar technique like UV exposure? I often find that the hydrogel preparation abstracts that I read are missing simple steps like radiation exposure due to it being such a common step. Is this GAA (gum arabic aldehyde)? Perhaps if gum arabic and pentaerythritol were reacted with glutaraldehyde as a cross-linking agent, a more desirable reaction could be made.
