I need to design an eddy current test probe for inspection of ferromagnetic test piece. I have come across a sample solution that solves for Eigenfrequency of a PCB coil in COMSOL. I needed to know whether COMSOL takes into consideration the stray capacitance between the turns of the winding or not.
Could anyone tell what is the physics behind the calculation of Eigenfrequencies and is it the same as 'resonant frequency' of the coil?
The simplest approach could be to analyze the Inductive and Capacitive reactance of the coil and compute the Resonant frequency by equating the two i.e. when Inductive reactance = capacitive reactance. Is it how COMSOL calculates Eigenfrequency?
