I'm planning to change the components of cell culture media for reprogramming iPSC in order to make it cost-effective for lab research. some research was made in related areas, but my question is "how is it possible to remove a single component from a medium in order to test it for efficiency?". for example if I want to remove some proteins from serum what do I need to do?
Even if you pass serum thru come columns, and try to remove some proteins, you may loose lot of growth factors from serum which are unknown. In short, not a good idea, in my opinion. Let us hear from someone else.
If you use a defined, serum-free medium you could omit or add components as needed.
If you want to remove proteins from serum you could use magnetic beads coated with antibodies specific for that protein.
