Could anyone tell me by what criteria to choose Hep G2 or L02 cell line? If I need to assess the chronic or acute toxicity in the liver of some compounds. which one should I choose?
The process of choosing the appropiate cell line (HEP G2 or L-02) is quite dependent on which kind of compound(s) you want to test and which toxicolofical end-points would you like to test.
If you have in mind what are the compounds + which kind of tests you want to do... Then you may want to check what has been done (what can find) in literature and only then choose with which cell line you would like to work! (Maybe with both and then compare them? Maybe with only one of them...?)...
Maybe you can check this paper: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0960327118769718?icid=int.sj-full-text.similar-articles.2
where HepG2 cells seemed to be more prone to apoptosis induced by nanosilver than L-02..... (for example)
There is a very nice paper from 2016 that you might want to read .... Article The HepaRG cell line, a superior in vitro model to L-02, Hep...
Warning: you should definitively not use L-02 as a model for liver as it is a HeLa contaminated cell line and thus not originating from liver but from cervix. See:
